Care, Maintenance & 		 Reprocessing Guidelines for John Weiss Diamond Knives  •  The care of delicate surgical instruments starts on delivery  •  •  Haag-Streit UK Ltd makes every effort to supply you with perfect instruments  Do not let the knife touch other instruments or any hard objects  •  •  Carefully remove them from their boxes and examine them under magnification to be  assured they are in perfect condition  Haag-Streit UK Ltd recommend that you dedicate an ultrasonic cleaner to be used only for ophthalmic instruments.  •  If a problem is found, notify Haag-Streit UK Ltd immediately (see ‘General’ information for contact details)  •  Once the instrument has been examined and accepted it should be cleaned before placing it in the sterilising tray.  •  Warnings  John Weiss Diamond Knives have a fine surgical cutting edge, they are also  extremely delicate and should be handled with great care  •  Follow instructions and warnings as issued by manufacturers of any decontaminants, disinfectants and cleaning agents used. Wherever possible avoid acids and harsh, abrasive agents  •  Instruments must be used for their specified purpose. Incorrect use could damage the instrument  •  Our instruments are designed for use by surgeons who have a full understanding of their features and how they should be used. Any other use can compromise the safety of the user and the patient. It is the responsibility of the surgeon to choose the suitable instrument for the surgical technique being  When reprocessing medical devices, always handle with care, wearing protective clothing, gloves and eyewear in accordance with your local health & safety procedures. • •  Reprocessing Limitations  Repeated processing has minimal effect on these instruments End of life is normally determined by wear and damage in use.  Ultrasonic Cleaning & Disinfection •  Place the knife (with blade in the fully retracted position) in an ultrasonic unit filled with warm distilled/deionized water (65.5°C/150°F) along with a neutral pH cleaner for 2 to 3 minutes. The knife may be fully immersed with the 		 blade fully retracted in a small ophthalmic 		 dedicated ultrasonic cleaning unit. It is best to put the Diamond Knife in its dedicated tray with finger mats to reduce vibration.  •  After ultrasonic cleaning is complete, rinse knife under distilled/deionized water to remove remaining residue from the blade for 30 		 seconds on each side with the blade exposed. Blades should not be extended 		 beyond the footplate. Do not use heavy water pressure; a small stream of water is adequate. Point the front of the knife down when flushing. Retract blade and rinse the handle
