March 31, 2020 Information on cleaning da Vinci System Components with respect to COVID-19 To Whom It May Concern, At Intuitive, we have received many questions recently regarding cleaning da Vinci surgeon consoles, often used by multiple surgeons per day. Managing the spread of COVID-19 is a top priority for hospitals across the country and we understand that many facilities are experiencing a depletion of their sanitizing and disinfecting materials. For instance, many hospitals have indicated to us that they are running low on supplies such as CaviWipes ®, which are often used to clean da Vinci surgeon consoles, vision carts, and patient carts. With this letter, we outline potential options for cleaning the console and carts during this pandemic:
Institutions should first follow internal infection prevention guidelines regarding COVID-19 disinfection with regard to employee and patient safety protocols and processes.
Please follow the instructions for cleaning the surgeon console and carts set forth in the da Vinci System User Manual: “A customer can choose to use a soft, lint-free cloth and a surface disinfectant product (or a pre-moistened disinfectant wipe product) to wipe the exterior surfaces of the system components and cabling at the frequency required by individual hospital policy.”
In the event that pre-moistened disinfectant wipes are unavailable, you may wipe the system with a lint-free cloth sprayed with a spray disinfectant. Do not spray disinfectant directly onto the system.
Intuitive has evaluated the following surface disinfectant products as compatible with our system and all components (Hand Controls, Finger Grips, Surgeon Eye Pieces, Arm Rest, Head Rest, and general system platforms Surgeon Console, Vision Cart, and Patient Cart): o 70% Isopropyl alcohol o Bleach (sodium hypochlorite) up to 10%. o Metrex CaviCide™/CaviWipes® o neodisher® neoform MED rapid o PDI Sani-Cloth® Prime o Quaternary ammonium compounds

Intuitive has validated only the surface disinfectant products listed above as compatible with da Vinci systems. We recognize that safety is a top priority. If you currently use, or find the need to switch to a disinfectant product not listed above, please carefully monitor the console for any changes, such as cracking, discoloration, or degradation. Should you encounter this, contact our customer care line or speak with your customer service representative immediately.

Note: Recommendations for chemical disinfection are limited to system compatibility. We cannot make claims on efficacy against COVID-19. For efficacy claims regarding a chemical’s effectiveness against COVID-19 a hospital should consult the EPA website listed above or contact the chemical disinfectant’s manufacturer. Furthermore, the hospital should ensure they have all the required information, such as dilution ratios, contact time, and method of application.
