System performance The procedures described in this manual must be observed in order to ensure proper system performance, and to avoid hazards. Radiometer cannot provide or verify system performance characteristics if the system is not installed, used and maintained in accordance with Radiometer procedures or if accessories not meeting the specifications provided by Radiometer are used. Radiometer warrants that the data media on which the software included in the system is furnished is free from defects in material and workmanship under normal use for three (3) months from the date of delivery as evidenced by a copy of invoice or receipt.

The RADIANCE system comprises Sybase SQL Anywhere®, the Adobe Shockwave Player and Adobe Flash Player software. Introduction
This chapter gives the intended use, limitations of and some technical specifications for the user of the RADIANCE system applications. This chapter also gives the writing conventions the user should be aware of and information concerning any warning, caution notices that appear in this manual.

This manual is intended for those responsible for installing the RADIANCE system and for those using the setup applications of the RADIANCE Administrator and the RADIANCE portal.

Intended use
The RADIANCE system is a data processing application for clinical use intended to monitor, collect, store, retrieve and process laboratory data. The RADIANCE system is also intended to control Radiometer analyzers providing laboratory data. For professional users.
RADIANCE system components
Analyzer support
The RADIANCE system consists of the following: •
The RADIANCE server controlling all data transactions and holding the RADIANCE database

The RADIANCE server is accessed from a web browser
•
Advanced setup and configuration is performed from the RADIANCE interface
•
Administrator program.

The FLEXLINK application from a PDA
•
Optionally one or more interfaces to Hospital and Laboratory Information Systems can be configured.

Windows conventions
The RADIANCE software applications run similarly to Windows applications and, therefore, follow normal Windows procedures. It is assumed that the RADIANCE system user is familiar with Microsoft Windows software. Therefore this manual uses names and procedures common to the Windows environment.
Results and HIS/ LIS
Results stored in the RADIANCE database can be transmitted to the hospital HIS (LIS, CIS or other information) system.
Master Patient Index lookup
The RADIANCE MPI operates as long as there is an active LIS (or HIS) connection when a request for patient information is made. An analyzer requests the RADIANCE system for patient information. The RADIANCE system requests the LIS for the information. When LIS answers, the response will pass through the RADIANCE system again and back to the correct inquiring analyzer. If hospitals do not have a Patient Master Index Look-Up interface, the RADIANCE system can serve as one.
Network failure
In the event of power or a network failure the RADIANCE system is capable of recovering automatically. NOTICE: If the RADIANCE system is connected to a HIS/LIS system that is temporarily not working, the RADIANCE system will not respond to a request.
Data synchronization
Data from the AQT90 FLEX, ABL800 FLEX, ABL700 Series, ABL77, ABL80 and ABL90 FLEX analyzers, will automatically be synchronized with the RADIANCE server when the system is online again. Data from other analyzers must manually be transmitted after a network or power failure. Data to a HIS/LIS system are automatically synchronized after a network or power failure.

Maintenance
Hardware
Check your computer hardware regularly to avoid malfunctioning hardware. It is the customer’s responsibility to perform the necessary system maintenance such as disk defragmentation, installation of necessary operating system patches and keeping security software such as virus protection programs up to date.
Backup
Back up your RADIANCE data regularly and make sure that the backup is installable in case of data loss. It is the customer’s responsibility to set up a proper back-up routine for the RADIANCE server. Radiometer accepts no liability for the customer’s data in the event of a hardware or software failure. Contact your local IT solutions specialist if you need assistance in setting up back-up procedures and routines.

Access
You access the RADIANCE Portal via a web-browser, using Internet Explorer version 6.01 or greater. You need not install the RADIANCE system on the PC to get access to the various functions.
Configuration
Do as follows to configure Internet Explorer: 1. Start Internet Explorer. From the Toolbar select Tools, Internet Options, Security, Custom level, Allow META REFRESH: Enable.

Installation procedure
Introduction
The following topic deals with procedures for installing a server, its features and for workstation(s) associated with the server from a RADIANCE CDROM.

RADIANCE setup types
Select one of following option: •
Install server with Workstation. – By default this option will be checked.
•
Install server without Workstation. – Select the Server with Workstation option. – Then deselect all features in the next step.
•
Install Workstation without installing a server. – After installing server with Workstation go to a PC acting as a second client and repeat setup selecting only the Workstation option.
Select features
•
Administrator. This module will allow the administrator to set up and change options for RADIANCE features. These features include adding or deleting users and setting up user rights and privileges.
Hospital information
Enter information to be used in the reports header. Select language to be used in the Administrator module.
Select profile
In the Select profile window you can select predefined setup profiles which will affect the whole QC manager setup. The profile settings will be applied to all functions and analyzers connected to the system. By using the predefined profiles most of the setup is done. You can customize your setup further from the QC manager setup in the RADIANCE system. The following predefined profiles exist: •
German, used to work according to the RiLiBÄK regulation.
•
USA automatic, used to auto process the QC results in QC processing. Control ranges will get calculated automatically.
•
USA manual, used to manually process the QC results in QC processing. Control ranges will get calculated automatically.
•
Other, used to control QC results against the manufacturer ranges.

QC Manager maintenance setup
Select if you want to load default maintenance for all analyzers.
Select primary storage type
The primary storage type indicates how the Patient ID field in the RADIANCE system is interpreted when it is sent to the HIS/LIS system. If you select Patient ID then the patient ID will be sent in the Patient ID field in the record to the HIS/LIS system. If you select Social security number the Patient ID field in the RADIANCE system will be sent in the Social security number field in the record to the HIS/LIS system.
RADIANCE Installation Summary
The window shows what has been selected to be installed. If the details are incorrect click Back until you reach the appropriate window to change details.
